Moody & Editorial Food Photography in New Jersey: A Dutch Masters–Inspired Test Shoot at The Art Factory

What does it feel like to sit at the table?

That question guided this test shoot—created in collaboration with food stylist Yasmin Alishav and set and prop stylist Kristin Paquette—as we explored how light, texture, and composition can shape not just how food looks, but how it’s experienced.

A Study in Light: From Dutch Masters to Modern Editorial

The original inspiration came from Dutch Masters still life paintings—images defined by shadow, restraint, and a deep richness.

The result is a body of work that moves between:

  • moody, painterly still life

  • modern, bright, editorial, story-driven food imagery

Both approaches share the same foundation—just expressed differently. The darker images feel intimate, luxurious, and timeless while the brighter images feel social, inviting, and alive.

Hiring a Food Photographer in New Jersey or NYC

If you’re a brand, agency, or creative director looking for:

  • moody food photography with a Dutch Masters influence

  • bright, editorial food photography for campaigns or social

  • a cohesive visual approach that can flex across styles

  • food photography in New Jersey or New York

this is exactly the kind of work I’m building toward with clients.

Final Thoughts

Test shoots are where creative direction becomes visible.

They’re not just about making images—they’re about defining what you want to be hired for.

This one was about light, mood, and range—and how all three can work together to tell a more complete story.
