The most common advice for a photographer is to drill down to one niche and showcase it—the logic being that any potential clients will want someone who specializes in the specific thing they need. 

Here’s the thing though: I know how to use my gear, I know how to use light, and I know how to make a strong composition. That is the bedrock of any successful photographer’s career. 

Sure, some guiding principles will vary based on the assignment. Doing architecture? Better make damn sure those lines are straight. Photographing licensed products for e-commerce? Don’t bother taking a shot if the character’s face is obscured or wrinkled. But ultimately? It’s the knowledge of the equipment, lighting, and composition that will make a great image. 

I love my job. Working in different genres keeps me on my toes and keeps things interesting.
